adjective, nominative singular masculine
Etymology. From Proto-Slavic *tъnkъ, cognate with Old Church Slavonic тънък and Lithuanian tankùs 'dense' (opposite sense suggests the root meant 'drawn tight' or 'compressed'). Related to English 'thin' and German 'dünn' through Indo-European *ten- 'to stretch, thin out'.
